button in another dimension

Recently Karen Leslie told me about a fun “client gift” by Image3D – they sell old-school style view-masters with reels you can customize using your own photos. I recently received a sample to review, and I’m hooked!

Image3D

“If you’ve picked up an original View-Master in the last few decades, chances are the images were shot by one man. Rich Dubnow (a.k.a. the Most Experienced 3D Photographer in the World) was lead photographer at View-Master for twenty years producing work for creative visionaries like Jim Henson and Steven Spielberg.

In 1997, Rich founded Image3D in the picturesque Pacific Northwest. Since then, Image3D has grown from a kitchen table operation to a state-of-the-art facility producing custom-made 3D experiences for everyone from blushing brides to corporate titans.”

image 3D view finder

image 3D view finder

Building a customized reel super easy. All you have to do is upload your digital photos, edit, then add 3D captions. (You can also use their stereo reel builder if you want to submit 3D images.) Your order will be on your doorstep in just days. One set (reel, viewer and box) runs $24.95, and bulk discounts are available.

So if you’re looking for a unique client holiday gift this year, or just want to add a fun new product to your senior or wedding lines, check out Image3D!

Happy weekend! This post will answer several “hey, where did you get…?” questions. But first we have a winner to announce in our Paper Source gift card giveaway…and it’s scraphappyrhodes!

paperie boutique paper source gift card winner

newborn peapod pea pod baby prop

I’m constantly e-mailed by photographers wanting to know “where did you get the peapod?” I actually hand-painted it myself after finding something I thought would work – it was hidden back in a clearance bin.

galpin studios peapod

I found this one for under $40 $50 on eBay – don’t suspect it will stay there long.

But never fear! I have found a vendor that makes them, and they are almost identical to mine – you can see / order them here at the Galpin Studios Etsy store, or request an order here at Galpin Studios on Facebook.

I think if you made a bright fabric triangle sail and attached it to a dowel
rod on the brightly colored ones, it would make a cute “sailboat”, too!

(The precious little peapod hat of mine is from Knitty Bitty Apparel on Etsy.)

Atlanta newborn photographer photography

If you’re looking for a mossy or grassy blanket similar to the ones I use in my peapod and nest, I bought the one shown above from Baby P Designs on Etsy. I highly recommend them! The “nest” is a simple grapevine wreath from JoAnn’s.

newborn holiday photography snow

As Christmas approaches each year, I’m bombarded with e-mails asking “where did you get the sleigh?” I honestly don’t know because it was a surprise from my mom in Oklahoma. I have seen some almost identical – albeit slightly smaller – in Hobby Lobby so bring your tape measurers and see if you can make it work! The adorable hat shown is by Fuzzy Lumpkin Crochet on Etsy. The blanket shown is similar to the Plushy Pom Pom by Ooh So Chic Boutique on Etsy.

newborn bicycle basket hat stocking cap

Another photo I’m asked about a lot is the baby on the bike. I bought the bike on clearance at Hobby Lobby. The hat shown is from Knitwitwoolies on Etsy (love her!). And the background is a canvas Bad Sass Backdrop by Heather Green Designs (#HG006).

pink suitcases infant portraits

Last but not least, the #1 question I get is “where did you get the suitcases?” That one is not so simple to answer…

First I had Tiffany blue and Christmas red sets from Paper Source. I lost both of those sets when we lost our house. (Gabi of My Funky Camera gave me one of the best gifts I have ever received when she realized they were gone, and she had one of the large Tiffany cases herself. After coaxing it away from her kids and removing the Barbie clothes inside, she sent it to me and gave me hope again in the human race!)

Right after we moved, I found similar cases at Land of Nod in pink (shown) and powder blue. I put the word out on forums, but they quickly sold out and discontinued the items.

However, as I recently shared on Facebook, Kate’s Paperie just started selling two similar sets – red large / small and blue large / small. You will need the large size to hold a newborn or baby!

If you’re sitting there thinking, “Those are cute, but they sure are pricey…I don’t know…” Yeah, they’re not cheap. (You can get a 20% off code mailed to you immediately if you sign up for the newsletter first though.) Now where were we? Oh yes, the price. If you don’t buy them, and you really want them, you will regret it. Trust me on this. I always thought I’d get another set…one day…and never did. And it seemed every session I styled after that, the color I didn’t buy was the color I would need to make it work. They are HARD to find, and they sell out quickly once word gets out. Do I like these as much as my original Paper Source sets? Not really. But would they be a good enough substitute? Yes. It’s your call!

If you haven’t visited our Facebook page lately, I’ve also been sharing holiday gift ideas for your clients this year. Do you know what you’ll be giving yours yet?

Entry #29 is from Jennifer Stuart Photography. Love the bold color punches combined with the pale chartreuse!

Jennifer Stuart

I have been researching for over a year to find the perfect solutions for product presentation. Most of the time I have to ship items to clients, so I wanted them to feel like they were opening something very special. Everything is wrapped in crisp white tissue, boxes are finished with a satin bow and EVERY package includes handwritten note for a personal touch. It was very important to me that the look and colors were consistent throughout.

My branding uses chartreuse green, black, white, gray, and a little orange, so for my holiday packaging I just switched out the orange for a cheerful red. I wanted to keep the sleek, clean, modern look that my packaging usually has, but jazzed is up a little with extra details for fun. I also included a metal Christmas ornament from Black River Imaging as a gift for each client. The photos below also show a couple of the cards I’ve created which are sent throughout the year.

Entry #30 is from Tamara Elise Photography – such a dreamlike quality to it.

Tamara Elise Photography
click each Wrap Battle entry photo for a larger pop-up version

This is my wedding packaging. My photography style is light, elegant, and natural, so I tried to incorporate that into my packaging. I searched and searched for a long time for exactly what I had pictured in my mind. Many of the items, I simply made myself.

Vendors used:
• Light blue wedding DVD case – Loktah
• DVD case for the engagements and bridals – Northwest
   Professional Color Lab
(The inside of these are not fully
pictured, but they include a dvd holder on their tri-fold and
bi-fold cards, which I customize with images for the bride
   and groom. Love these!)
• Cream box – I couldn’t find the exact size and natural feel
that I was looking for, so I made them myself with thick
   cardstock from Hobby Lobby.
• Little flowers, ribbon, and Kraft bag – Hobby Lobby
• Tissue paper – Target
• Supplies for handwritten thank you card – Wal Mart
• Cloth – local quilting and fabric stores
• Logo – printed on cream colored cardstock

I have been working on the perfect packaging for awhile and finally decided I wanted to keep things as local as possible. My packaging includes Kraft paper boxes and bags, turquoise & white ribbon and custom button. I also incorporate my custom rubber stamps and embossed them on my packaging.

I decided to create a small spinoff when it came to my holiday packaging but also wanted something simple that everyone could enjoy. So I added 2 simple white snowflake ornaments & silver tissue paper. Nothing better then snow for the holiday!

Vendors used:
• Embossing by Tatiana Fowler – Martha Stewart heat tool & powder
• Ribbons & button – Michael’s Craft Store
• Frame – Jasper Lilly
• Thank you cards- WHCC
• Custom logo stamp – My Rubber Stamp
• Kraft bags – Michael’s Craft Store
• Tissue paper – Target
• Snowflakes – Target
