button oh, Mr. Postman

A few days ago I linked FREE Moo holiday sticker and minicard template downloads for the holidays / Christmas. Moo asked me to create new 2011 templates for their sticker labels and round sticker lines. I was happy to oblige and I’m passing them on here as well!

Below you will find two FREE sticker label templates (one is a holiday-themed mailing label, the other a holiday themed gift label) and FREE coordinating round “postmark” stickers.

UPDATE: There are now separate links for U.S. and UK downloads for those of you who prefer the date (“25″) before the month (“12″) in the design postmark. The flag icons will help direct you to the download-version you prefer.

button hurry Christmas – hurry fast!

As promised yesterday (TWO posts here and here if you missed them), we’re kicking things into holiday-gear here at Paperie over the next few weeks. Today’s FREE downloads will help you do the same!

I recently tweaked a free holiday / Christmas card template from last year for the new ProDPI Mod Card line.

ProDPI mod card holiday This design is for a flat 5×7 “Mod” holiday card (front and back for “Roundedcorners01″) for print at ProDPI. (The ProDPI Mod Card flat 5×7 “Roundedcorners01″ crop / bleed guide is included as a hidden layer — in addition to the regular ProDPI flat 5×7 crop / bleed guide, also included as a hidden layer.)

5x7 mod holiday back ProDPI free template

The files are .psd files (front, back) and the layers can be hidden. However, the text and colors were not designed to be altered.

If you choose to have these printed at another lab, please check the design in that lab’s template guidelines first!

button you might be a winner – vol. 5

More PaperieBirthday.com contest winners are announced further down in this post – but first, a quick word from the fine folks at Moo.

Moo Round Stickers

One of the recent Paperie Boutique birthday giveaways featured all the new types of Moo stickers available. Now every order of Moo Round Stickers includes a free sticker relating to the country your order is shipped to.*

Moo wants to celebrate the lovely new designs, and the clever technology that allows them to make stickers in general really! So, they’ve got a competition and some great prizes for you. It’s very simple to enter, just…..

1. stick ANY Moo sticker, on something you love about your city or country
2. take a picture of it
3. post it to Moo’s Flickr or Moo’s Facebook with the tag #CityStickers

Moo will be running the competition until the August 15th and then Tara, the stickers manager, will choose 20 winners who will receive $200 / £125 / €140 each to spend at Moo. One lucky winner will receive a copy of Corel Paintshop Pro photo editing software as well. So get snapping! [see more here at Moo's blog]

* Moo couldn’t create designs for every single country in the world, but they have the following 15 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, United Kingdom, Japan, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and USA. If your order is not for any of these 15 countries you will get a ‘Hello World’ sticker – which is very much open to interpretation!

P.S. If a Paperie reader wins it all, we’ll kick in two free packs of Moo Sticker Books ($9.99 / each)!

paperie 2nd birthday
Winner announcements start on Monday, July 25th…

If there’s such a thing a a super-duper triple-360° mega giveaway, well then #25 would be it! Up for grabs for one lucky Paperie reader are three amazing prizes from Francypants Boutique, One Willow Presets, and The Album Cafe.

Francypants Academy
Francypants BonjOrganization Guide
The BonjOrganization .pdf guide ($99 value) has over 50 pages teaching the art of balancing work and family along with client and time management. Bonus items include “Worst First” charts for the family, Kelli’s Mom-preneur schedule, client checklists, filing systems, and more. Also features Kelli’s extreme office make-over and the strategic setup of her office. It will change the way you work and play!

“I wish I could leap through email and just hug your neck. I read your BonjOrganization e-book last night and had so many light bulb moments. Really, I love organization. It makes me happy. But I can’t keep up with a system that I love yet. Now, I printed off your Worst-First Chart and your Schedule, and I’m tweaking them to our family’s needs. And already, I feel so much better!! I can do this! I had a very productive day today, kept up with housework, clients, Parker’s school program, and even ate dinner out with the family after the play. This morning? Both of my kids made their beds and Parker even finished his handwriting homework before we left the house. And I even had the strength (and sense) to say an emphatic NO to a client who is asking for yet another exception, and I haven’t even shot her session yet. (I’m not going to take the session at all, in fact.)

Thank you, Kelli. You’re such a gem. And I will be shouting the praises of your BonjOrganization e-book from the rooftops, darling.”
~Stacey Woods, Stacey Woods Photography

One Willow Presets
The One Willow Presets “Triple Collection, plus Timeless” collection ($139.00 value) includes 82 presets, 55 posts, and 5 tones.

button welcome mat(erials)

Recently on an entry by Courtney Reece Photography, we had a couple of requests to show how to put together a “client welcome kit” (and to list what typically goes in one). Although I can’t speak for everyone, as photographers and photography-genres can all vary quite a bit, I did recently take step-by-step photos of what goes in mine…

First I include a paper sample kit (featured previously on Paperie here and here). Most of my packages include announcements or holiday cards (or the ability to purchase cards as an add-on) so I like to give each client a better idea of the paper and envelope choices available from the various print labs I use. Every card a client sends has my logo and URL on the back, so they are wonderful advertising for my business, and a ‘status symbol’ of sorts that Buttons and Bows Photography was their photographer. As such, I want them to select their personal preferences for the product rather than me just choosing the paper and envelope types for them.

paper sample kit

Each paper and envelope choice is clearly labeled. I purposely use the color red in the card samples because not all card stocks start off as “pure white”. Some can have a blue cast, and others yellow. Red really highlights the differences in the final products. They can easily see how the same images change hues when printed on different papers.

paper sample kit back view

Since my clients order online, I feel the only way to guide new parents through this process is to give them something to hold and feel when picking out announcements and cards. It’s simply too much to remember from the prior in-person consultations, and easier on them also means easier for me.

paper sample kit

You can purchase my paper sample kit template at my site “Fit to Print“.

Next I include a “wall design” mini-booklet. You can see this featured previously on Flickr here.

wall gallery kit

I designed my wall gallery booklet with the help of a Pinkle Toes 4 Photographers template. If you are not a member of PT4P, other options are:

1. Photographer’s Wall Display Guide (featured on Paperie)
2. Gradybug Designs (set 1, set 2)
3. Design Aglow (Portraits I, Portraits II, Canvases)
4. Melissa Davis Designs (Wall Display)
5. The Savvy Photographer (Savvy Size Guide)
6. Simply Walls
7. Jamie Schultz Designs (Ordering – Wall Display Brochure)
8. Kori and Kate (Portrait Wall Displays)
9. Pink Ink Studios (Order Form with Wall Displays)

The pages of my mini-booklet are 4×5 photo prints that I adhere back-to-back with Tombow MONO Permanent Adhesive. The final page is a press-printed card and includes a ruled-lined page for client note-taking. I hole punch the top left corner of each page, place them together on a binder ring, and hot-glue my trademark button & bow on the ring-top. The completed booklets are placed inside envelopes from Paper Source.

welcome kit

I also tuck in my 2010 Client Information Kit. You can see the 2009 version here on Flickr. (And you can purchase the 2007-2008 “wide-format 5×7″ version here on “Fit to Print”.)

The 2010 accordion-version includes a pocket with business cards, cards for my referral program, and any promotional items. Each panel of the accordion provides information and tips for the various types of sessions included in client packages, and also explains my shooting style and business philosophy. The kit also has a section that gives each client their username and password for their personal Buttons and Bows Photography website.

I print these accordion cards at Miller’s. The outer envelope is from Paper Source, and the card pocket envelope is from Action Envelope.

welcome packet

At the end, everything is gathered into a 2-pocket folder by Envelopper Inc. (You can see an older photo of this posted to Flickr here.) In the left-side slit, I include a self-addressed, stamped #10 business envelope (printed at Vistaprint). In the right-side slits, I include “appointment reminder” business cards with the dates of their scheduled sessions. The left pocket includes everything that needs to be returned to me (and this is noted in a sticker placed on the pocket) — this includes all contracts and adult / minor model releases. The right pocket includes their copy of the contract (to keep), relevant session information ‘tip sheets’, and four envelopes (paper sample kit, wall gallery booklet, information kit, and a handwritten thank you card for booking with me). Envelopes are sealed with my cute little Moo stickers – new Moo.com customers can get 10% off their orders through 9/30 with the code W9K55V.

welcome packet

I add my signature button & bow to the outside of the folder, and then place these inside of an outer presentation envelope from Paper Source, ready to mail. My clients love having everything organized in one folder for quick access and reference. I shoot primarily maternity and newborn sessions, so life is chaotic enough preparing for a new arrival. I don’t want to add to the clutter and confusion if at all possible.

Other photographers have featured their welcome packets here on Paperie in the past. Make sure to look through the archives for ideas and inspiration! A few of note are:

1. Julie Rollins Photography
2. Carrie Small Photography (and a follow-up post)
3. Heather Garland Photography
4. Denton Boudoir Photography
5. Stylized Portraiture
6. France Photography
7. Gail Werner Photography
8. The Captured Life Photography

You can find more vendors I use and recommend here. So what are you waiting for? Get started on yours! (And then send us the photos and share with the class!)

button you might be a winner!

Today we’re very lucky to have a guest post by Kim Drury of MadiLu Designs. Kim also designs for one of my favorite template sites Pink Ink Studios. Read to the end for a chance to win one of TWO fantastic prizes!

What’s best for you? Custom or premade design?

MadiLu Designs

I was so excited to hear from Paperie Boutique! Packaging and presentation is something I’ve loved my entire life. Thanks for having me!

There are many design resources for photographers. While some can, and ENJOY doing it for themselves, there are many others who don’t have the time to devote to designing their own marketing materials. It’s great to have so much to choose from, but can be overwhelming!

Many sites will offer premade marketing templates. You basically download the files, pop in your info and you’re finished. Easy peasy! Premades are great for the photographer on a budget or when you need something right away. They are also nice to have when you aren’t sure about your look or style, yet you need something to present a professional image. You’ll find some of my premade sets at Pink Ink Studios. There are many talented designers over there who offer great marketing templates and they are ready to go!

Custom design is beautiful and by far my favorite thing to work on. I recommend going the custom route when you’ve got a good idea of what image you want to portray to your clients and if you’ve been looking at premade sets and can’t seem to find “the one”. Custom work does take longer and is typically more expensive. It requires focus and input on your part, but when you’re finished it’s very rewarding. It belongs only to you and can set you apart from your competition.

MadiLu Designs

I’m sharing a custom logo and set I recently created for Jack and Jane Photography. It was so much fun to watch this come together.

button golden ticket

I’m so excited to have Stacey Duncan of La Pomme Design and Goldapple Photography back for another guest post (January 2010, October 2009)! Make sure to read all the way to the end, because one Paperie viewer will get very lucky this week!

It’s a pleasure to be back at the Paperie Boutique! I have received so much inspiration from this blog and from the generous souls who are featured on here, so I love that I get to be part of it!

I have spent several months developing my branding, my marketing materials, and really, my business, and have fallen in love with it. Last year was my first year in business, and I didn’t realize how important it was to really LOVE the business side of my business. I mean, as photographers, we love the photography side of the business, but there is so much more to it! Even if you aren’t a business-oriented person, as a business owner you have to be somewhat savvy (or hire someone who is!), and you can enjoy the business more when you develop it to your tastes.

After determining my ideal client, my market, my business plan, and it was time to let my branding follow accordingly. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted, and I knew how my main competition is branded, so I knew how to NOT brand myself as well! My logo was my starting point.

I developed a brand that is elegant, timeless, and is adaptable to all different types of portrait photography. It is appealing to my ideal clientele, and I am absolutely in LOVE with it – which is the most important part!

When a client books a session over email/the internet, they fill out the info form and contract online and pay online. I then mail the client a welcome packet in an envelope from Paper Source. The welcome packet includes a general information brochure, an investment brochure (which is my full price guide), a client gifts card, a session card that is specific to their session type (maternity, newborn, engagement, etc), a personal note handwritten from me, a fashion wallet guide, a set of paper examples, and a couple business cards.

If a client wants to meet in person for a consultation, I will bring the physical info form and contract for the client to sign. I bring the exact same welcome packet, except I bring it all in a large Paper Source envelope with the forms.

Some of my other marketing materials include a gift certificate, referral card with personalized image wallets, and a personalized 11×17 wall calendar. I also print stickers for my welcome packet mailings, shipping labels for client purchases, and copyright stickers to put on the backsides of image enlargements.

I get so many compliments from clients about my marketing, so I know it is successful in that they recognize it and admire it. I actually did a family session last Sunday night for two graphic designers, and they both were thoroughly impressed with it, which I took as a WIN. It’s like when another photographer admires your work, you take that as a higher compliment than when a client admires it.

Many of you know I am the owner of La Pomme Design, The Photographer’s Boutique. I have taken all of my marketing templates and made them completely customizable, able to work with any branding, and a perfect jumping off point for photographers who don’t have the time, inclination, or knowledge to create a full marketing campaign. I have even included a couple templates that I know other photographers use that I haven’t incorporated yet!

Introducing the Goldapple Photography Premier Marketing Kit! The kit includes unflattened .psd templates of the following:

- Business Card (front and back) (ProDPI)
- 2010 Calender
- Copyright Sticker
- Gift Certificate (WHCC)

button go 4 it!

Paperie Boutique recently did a packaging feature by Julie Rollins Photography. It was so popular, I added a follow-up post to let readers know where Julie purchased her marketing materials. And this could be your lucky day because one of those vendors (Go{4}Pro) is giving away an “everything / ultimate marketing kit” to one Paperie fan! I’m going to introduce Leah Stimmel now for this guest post and let her say the rest!

Go{4}Pro

I created Go{4}Pro as a way to document my journey as I made my effort to do just that, go for pro. I quite literally started from scratch! I had seen an image by Mark Lee and fell instantly head over heels in love with contemporary photography and thought “that’s what I want to do“. So I figured I should probably start with getting myself a camera. When you decide you’re going to be a photographer and you’ve never owned more then a point and shoot, you have a pretty steep learning curve. But I didn’t care—with every part of me I just had to do this. I was smitten with this idea of capturing the genuine.

But of course the journey can be lonely when you feel that you know nothing and no one who does. You can feel quite lost! After several less then enthusiastic responses from my husband when I’d wake him up at 2 a.m. because I’d just stumbled on something amazing I decided to start blogging about these amazing finds instead. And so Go{4}Pro was created. A very happy side effect of Go{4}Pro was realizing the effect I was having on others. And although technically I still may not be the sharpest lens in the bag, my business background has given me a fabulous opportunity to teach and inspire which have always been deep passions of mine. As I grew so did my vision for Go{4}Pro. It’s become a place to learn, grow, find inspiration and of course great freebies!

With a DSLR came the need for Photoshop. The more I learned Photoshop the more I started to realize the potential past just editing images and that I enjoyed creating and designing. Thanks to my business background I love me some branding and marketing. No seriously, my idea of a fun book is in the business section! So combine my love for the business side of things and a soft spot for design and I started realizing that I wanted to create the ultimate marketing kit. I originally only intended to make it for myself and started writing down every single thing I could think of that I might want. Well I quickly realized I wouldn’t be the only one wanting such a kit, so I designed it to be easily customizable so that it could be properly branded to any photographer’s style.

Go{4}Pro

I have created two kits. Both include the same content but with a different style. I wanted any photographer to be able to look past color palette and be able to see a style that would match with their current one. The Paysen Kit is retro and modern at the same time. Julia Rollins was recently featured on PB and she did a fabulous job taking the Paysen Kit and tailoring it to be the perfect fit for her!

Go{4}Pro

The Adi Kit was my second project and very fun as I designed what I might have wanted had I not gone the mustard yellow route. (Which I’m obsessed with, by the way!) I created The Adi Kit with the idea of a classic and/or contemporary feel.

Go{4}Pro

Both kits are packed with fully layered, customizable .psd files that anyone can use to enhance their business. And now both kits have contract and model release wording as well! I’ve seen a lot of marketing kits out there now—and don’t get me wrong, while the designs are often gorgeous they’ve never had even close to all of what I wanted. Add to that wanting to fully brand to MY business, and I realized that I had to create something different… Something that had EVERYTHING that I actually needed, and a few things that I only wanted. *wink*

I would love to give one kit, winner’s choice, to a Paperie Boutique reader.

I’d also like to let everyone know that right now the kits are $149. But when this giveaway ends, so does the price. Next Monday the kits will be going up to $199. (If the winner has already purchased the kit, I will gladly refund them!)

Go{4}Pro

So how do you win? It’s simple!

Go to your blog, Facebook account, Flickr account, or Twitter account and post the following:

I want to Go{4}Pro with @go4ProPhotos / go4prophotos.com – visit Paperie Boutique / paperieboutique.com to see how you can win, too!

Please note: The link you post must direct to a public account. I cannot verify links on private, friends & family only, or passworded accounts and they will not be eligible to win this item.

You can enter up to four times total – one entry each per public, non-private blog URL / Facebook / Flickr / Twitter account. Post the URL to your link(s) in the comments for THIS ENTRY. Comment(s) must be posted here by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sunday, March 21st.

Comments on this entry will be numbered in order of posting. The winning number will be chosen by Random.org, and the winner will be contacted within 24 hours of contest’s end to claim their prize. Good luck everyone!

What a great way to close the week – thank you so much Leah! Don’t forget to add Go{4}Pro to your daily reads!
