button simplicity.

And now a little slice of what keeps everyone coming back for more – the packaging! Today’s guest post is by Hannah Gaul of Hannah G. Photography.

I just updated my packaging (all of the inspiration taken from Paperie Boutique of course – I’m absolutely addicted), and I wanted to share it with you!

When I first wanted to redo my packaging/brand, I knew I wanted it simple, clean, and unique – like my photography style. So… I went to Anthropologie one day, bought something adorable for my sister, and when they asked if I wanted the gift wrap with it, I said “yes”. It was absolutely gorgeous! I just had to put my own spin on it for my business. I found a shop on ETSY (BBD Supplies) that sells pre-cut felt shapes and I went to town!

I use all kraft supplies from my local Michael’s and I ordered my boxes from HB Photo. I love how simple and pretty everything turned out! I knew I didn’t want bows or frills because many of my high school senior portrait clients are male – bows just wouldn’t fly with them. I think I found the perfect balance between simple, clean, fresh, and beautiful. I’m in love with my packaging and I hope you enjoy it too!

It all turned out absolutely adorable, Hannah! Thank you so much for sharing with everyone! And don’t forget we have two big contests going on right now!

I love all the packaging ideas. But I have a question or plea…I would love to see how people package big prints. The small stuff is easy and I have lots of ideas but my big prints are a pain in my rear!!!Please, please, please show some packaging ideas/example for big prints:)

I don’t have a current picture handy, but I wrap mine in Pool roll-wrap from Paper-Source:

Sometimes I spring for the Pool dots wrap:

Instead of tape, I seal them with the 1.25″ round labels in pool:

I don’t put a bow around large prints. I make sure they’re protected inside the wrap (in a bag if possible, with cardboard from the original lab packaging on top) and for outside decoration just put one of my logo stickers on the bottom right corner of the package. I worry more about print protection than presentation with the big ones.

Very creative, Hannah G.! I like the little band you made.

I found Shannon’s question interesting. I used to buy 16×20 boxes from TAP, but honestly, I hate spending the money. I do have 11×14 boxes (and use Millers boutique pkging sometimes.) Currently, I package up the little prints nicely and shove anything larger into the bag that the lab included (darn the tape I have to try and peel off!)

It seems to me that my clients want to see the large prints in my presence. I think it’s a combination of their excitement and wanting to share in the “moment” but also, wanting to check and make sure everything turned out okay. I have wondered about other photographers’ “delivery.” Robyn, do your clients tear off the paper while you watch? Do most of you other photogs mail your items or deliever them, or do your clients meet you?? I’d love to hear from others.

I ship almost all of my orders – Orlando is an insanely large metro area. It seems every location is 90 minutes in the other direction from where you started from. If I hand-delivered, I might as well live in my car. Between tolls and gas (not to mention time), it’s just more economical for me to use USPS and UPS with home pickup.
